Sahara vs Westgate Las Vegas: Which Hotel is Better for Trade Show Attendees?

If you’re attending a trade show at the Las Vegas Convention Center, two hotels come up again and again in every forum, Reddit thread, and conference planning guide: Sahara Las Vegas and Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. Both are on the Las Vegas Monorail. Both are genuinely close to the LVCC. And both regularly come in under corporate travel rate caps — unlike Wynn, Encore, or Fontainebleau.

But they’re not the same hotel. This guide breaks down the real differences so you can book the right one for your trade show trip.

Location & Distance to LVCC

Both hotels sit on the north end of the Strip, within easy reach of the Las Vegas Convention Center — but they’re positioned differently.

Westgate Las Vegas is directly adjacent to the LVCC. It’s connected via a walkway to the Convention Center campus and is the closest full-service hotel to the venue. Many conferences use Westgate as their official headquarters hotel for exactly this reason. If your show is at LVCC West Hall or Central Hall, you can walk there in under 5 minutes.

Sahara Las Vegas is about 1.2 miles north on Las Vegas Boulevard. It has its own Monorail stop (Sahara Station), putting you about 10–15 minutes from the LVCC Monorail stop. You can also walk the distance in around 20 minutes, though most attendees take the monorail or an Uber.

Winner for proximity: Westgate — no question. If you’re doing back-to-back convention days and want zero commute, Westgate wins.

Room Quality & Design

This is where Sahara pulls ahead. The Sahara Las Vegas has been extensively renovated since its 2019 rebrand from SLS, and its rooms are genuinely modern — clean lines, good lighting, updated bathrooms. The Marra Tower rooms are particularly well-reviewed. If you ask at check-in, an upgrade to a suite or Marra room is sometimes available for a premium; ask what it costs for your dates.

Westgate is older and more variable. The property dates back to the 1960s and has 3,000+ rooms — quality can vary significantly depending on which tower and floor you’re assigned. Some rooms have been refreshed; others feel dated.

Winner for room quality: Sahara — more consistent, more modern.

Price & Corporate Rate Compliance

For government and per diem travelers, the FY2027 federal lodging rate for Las Vegas is $147 a night from October to December 2026, $173 from January to March 2027 and $120 from April to August 2027, excluding taxes (GSA). Rates at both hotels move daily, so compare live prices for your dates against that ceiling.

Tip: Book directly through the hotel website — third-party rates are often higher during trade shows. During major shows like CES, NAB, or CONEXPO, book as early as possible regardless of property.

One line item that rarely shows up in the advertised rate: the resort fee. Both properties charge one, and on a three- or four-night show trip it can quietly add a meaningful amount to what your expense report actually sees. Worth knowing before you compare headline prices — a cheaper nightly rate with a higher fee can end up costing more.

The Westgate in particular runs periodic promotions that waive the resort fee for guests, sometimes bundled with dining credit or free parking. These come and go and the terms change, so check the current offer on the hotel’s own site for your dates before booking elsewhere — it can shift which of the two is genuinely cheaper.

Rates move fast during trade show weeks

Both the Sahara and the Westgate fill up early when a major show is in town, and corporate rates disappear first. Check live availability for your dates before you decide.

Networking vs. Decompressing

Westgate is the networking hotel. Because it’s the closest property to LVCC and frequently serves as the official convention hotel, the lobby, bars, and restaurants fill up with fellow attendees every evening. If you’re in sales or business development, Westgate is where those conversations happen after hours. Live music in the bar area most convention nights.

Sahara is the escape hotel. It gives you distance from the convention bubble — ideal if you want to decompress after a full day on the show floor. It has a pool, a more relaxed casino, and is positioned at the north end of the Strip for easy access to the rest of Las Vegas.

Choose based on your goal: Westgate for networking, Sahara for downtime.

Monorail Access

Both hotels are on the Las Vegas Monorail. Westgate has its own dedicated stop (Westgate Station) right at the property — one stop from LVCC. Sahara has Sahara Station (northernmost stop) — two stops from LVCC, about 8 minutes. Both are genuinely convenient with a multi-day monorail pass.

Which Should You Book?

  • Book Westgate if: your show is at LVCC and you want zero commute, you’re in sales/BD and want to network after hours, or your company has a room block there.
  • Book Sahara if: you want a nicer room for the same price, you value downtime over networking, or you plan to explore the Strip.

Both are solid, practical choices for trade show travel. The real mistake is booking a hotel on the south end of the Strip and paying for a rideshare every day to reach the LVCC.

Budget-Conscious Alternatives Off the Strip

If you’re looking to save on accommodation without sacrificing quality, Station Casinos properties offer excellent value for trade show attendees. With convenient shuttle services, modern rooms, and significantly lower rates than Strip hotels, they’re a smart choice for budget-minded professionals.
