CES has evolved dramatically from its origins as a consumer electronics trade fair. Today it’s a global showcase for innovation across sectors as diverse as automotive (major car manufacturers reveal concept vehicles and new tech), digital health, smart home, artificial intelligence, sustainable technology, and more. Fortune 500 companies, startups, and everything in between exhibit at CES — it’s genuinely a unique cross-industry event with no real equivalent anywhere in the world.

CES Venues: It’s Spread Across the City

Unlike most trade shows that are contained within a single convention center, CES spans multiple venues across Las Vegas. This is one of the most important things first-time attendees need to understand before they arrive — plan your days by venue, not by topic.

• Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC): The main venue — home to automotive, smart home, AI, gaming, and the largest tech brands. Three halls plus the new West Hall, opened 2021.
• Venetian Expo: Startup and innovation focused — Eureka Park (startups), health tech, and many mid-size exhibitors.
• Mandalay Bay Convention Center: A confirmed CES venue in recent editions; check the official CES floor plan for which categories are hosted here in 2027.
• Resorts World: Various technology sectors, emerging markets.
• ARIA/MGM Resorts venues: High-end private suites for confidential product briefings — commonly used by major tech companies for media-only unveilings.

Allow at least 30–45 minutes of travel time between venues. The LVCC to Venetian is manageable on foot (15 min) or via rideshare (5 min). LVCC to Mandalay Bay is 20+ minutes by car and not walkable.

What’s New at the Las Vegas Convention Center

The Las Vegas Convention Center finished a $600 million multi-phase renovation as CES 2026 opened in January 2026, so CES 2027 will be the second CES held on the updated campus. What changed:

• Indoor connection: a climate-controlled concourse now links the North and South Halls, so moving between them no longer means going outside.
• Central Hall lobby: a new, naturally lit grand lobby with a large digital screen (75 by 42 feet).
• South Hall: a new east-side entrance, plus a boardroom and administrative office complex.
• One look across the campus: the West Hall’s ribbon design now runs through the rest of the complex.

Registration and Badges

CES registration requires proof of professional or media affiliation. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) vets all applications. Register through ces.tech well in advance — the earlier you register, the lower the cost.

• Standard Pass: $149 through November 30, then $349 from December 1 (official CES 2027 pricing). Includes the exhibit floor, keynotes and select conference sessions
• Premium Pass: $1,450 through November 30, then $1,750. Adds all conference sessions and tracks
• Media credentials: Available to working journalists, industry analysts and qualified content creators, subject to CTA review. Apply through the media portal on ces.tech.
• Early pricing deadline: The lower Standard and Premium prices apply through November 30. From December 1, they rise to $349 and $1,750, according to ces.tech. Register before then to pay the early price.

Badge pickup is available at the LVCC and Venetian Expo from the day before the show opens. Pick up your badge on pre-registration day if possible — opening morning queues at badge pickup can exceed 45 minutes.

Before you fly: line up your meetings

CES 2026 had more than 4,100 exhibitors, according to the Consumer Technology Association’s audited figures. If you are exhibiting or selling at CES, the show floor is a hard place to start finding the right people.

Best Hotels for CES 2027

January is peak CES season — Las Vegas hotels fill up months in advance and prices surge to their highest levels of the year. Book as soon as CES dates are confirmed, ideally 4–6 months ahead. Hotels near the LVCC and the Venetian are the most strategic choices.

CES Keynotes: The Must-See Sessions

The CES keynotes are among the most watched technology presentations of the year — major announcements from companies like Samsung, Sony, LG, Nvidia, and others draw significant media attention globally. Keynote access is included with conference passes but not with exhibit-only passes. They typically run Sunday evening through Wednesday morning in the Venetian Palazzo Ballroom and Michelob Ultra Arena.

If you have an exhibit-only pass and want to follow the keynotes, most are livestreamed on the CES website and on YouTube within hours of broadcast.

CES Unveiled: The Media Preview Night

Before the show floor officially opens, CES Unveiled gives international media and analysts a first look at the products debuting that year. It's an invitation-focused press event rather than a general-attendee session, so most visitors won't attend, but it's worth knowing about: the coverage that comes out of Unveiled shapes which technologies get talked about all week. If you're exhibiting or attending as press, it's one of the highest-visibility moments of the entire event.

CES is just one of the reasons Las Vegas dominates the convention world — the city hosts 6 million convention delegates a year.

• January weather: Las Vegas in January can be surprisingly cold — temperatures average 5–12°C (41–54°F) with occasional rain. A warm jacket is essential, especially for outdoor queues and moving between venues.
• Book everything early. Hotels, restaurants, and Ubers are all scarce during CES. Reserve dinner reservations before you arrive.
• Plan by venue, not by product category. The show is too large to cover comprehensively. Pick your 2–3 priority venues per day and go deep rather than trying to see everything.
• Private suites matter. Some of the most important CES announcements happen in private meeting suites, not on the show floor. Schedule these meetings in advance — they book up weeks before the show.
• Bring a portable charger and a power strip. Power outlets are scarce on the show floor. A small power strip makes you instantly popular at any table.
• Rideshare surge pricing is extreme. During peak CES hours (show opens, show closes, keynote endings), Uber and Lyft surge to 3–5× normal rates. Walk where possible or use the official shuttle service.

Hotel prices in Las Vegas rise sharply for CES week (January 6–9, 2027). Our Price Watch measured an average of $145 a night (all-in) for CES week on September 27, 2026, 100 days out, against $104 for a quiet February reference week. Properties closest to the LVCC — Westgate, Renaissance, Courtyard Convention Center — command the highest premiums. Booking 90+ days before the show usually leaves you more choice than waiting for last-minute deals.

Best Budget Hotels for CES 2027

If you’re watching your budget, look east of the Strip: Embassy Suites Convention Center, Residence Inn Convention Center, and SpringHill Suites offer rates well below Strip-front resorts while keeping you within a 10–15 minute walk of the LVCC. Off-Strip properties along Paradise Road are the sweet spot for CES attendees who want proximity without the premium.

Getting from Harry Reid Airport (LAS) to CES Venues

Harry Reid International Airport is just 15–20 minutes from the LVCC by rideshare or pre-booked transfer. The Las Vegas Monorail connects several Strip hotels directly to the LVCC station. For groups or heavy equipment, a private shuttle or car service is the most efficient option — book in advance as CES week demand is extreme.

Walking Time Reality Check

At CES, you will walk 15,000–25,000 steps per day. A "10-minute walk" to your hotel sounds fine at 9am. After 8 hours on a convention floor, it's brutal. The difference between a 2-minute and 15-minute walk to your hotel is the difference between going back to freshen up for evening events or skipping them entirely. Book closer than you think you need to.

We measure CES hotel prices ourselves. LasVegasTrade Price Watch records the prices Google Hotels shows travelers (all-in, including taxes and resort fees) for the same set of Las Vegas hotels twice a week, from 100 days before the show until opening day.

Even 100 days out, CES week was listing about 39% above the reference week. Rates usually climb as the show gets closer, so booking early keeps more choice open.
